Radu Barbuceanu is a big picture thinker and public servant with a professional emphasis on community engagement, analyzing and developing administrative processes and developing meaningful projects that impact community. Through his role as the City of Houston Community Liaison for Cultural Affairs he has managed many projects that directly engage and impact the landscape of public art (both visual and performing) including the City’s Mural Program, the Poet Laureate Program and City Hall exhibits. He has also served on the host committee for the Next City Vanguard Conference which focused on sustainable and equitable urban development. In the same vein of urban development Radu has volunteered with Avenue CDC, an organization focused on building affordable homes and strengthening communities.
When not at work or volunteering on projects focused on community development, he dedicates his time volunteering within his own community, the LGBTQ+ community. In 2016 he and a small group of passionate volunteers were instrumental in engaging the Montrose and greater LGBTQ+ community in funding and facilitating the installation of the first Pride Crosswalk of Texas (located on Westheimer & Taft). Radu joined the board of directors for Pride Houston with the express intent of making the organization more engaged with the community. To that end, in collaboration with the Outreach, he helped implement a Town Hall process in which Pride Houston will regularly work with the community to tackle shared struggles and come to consensus on how to move forward and grow together as a community.
