Pride Houston and COVID-19 Safety Preparedness     >>

Pride Houston understands there is much concern, and that we all have a responsibility to help slow the spread of  Covid-19 in our city.  Therefore, all in-person pride events for the year, including the Celebration and Parade, are cancelled. We must take the best course of action for the city we love, and the LGBTQ+ community. At this time, that means staying apart. Please stay tuned for news and updates about upcoming virtual events.

Stay home. Stay safe. Stay hopeful! We can get through anything as a community if we take care of each other now.

Monte Bachus

Monte is a Houston native and a graduate from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He has spent the last 20 years of his professional career working in Human Resources. He currently serves as an HR Executive for a retail company in Houston. Monte has 5 brothers out of which 3 are gay, yes it runs in the family! He has volunteered with various organizations throughout the years and specifically with Pride Houston for the past 4 years. Monte and his partner, Ren, live in Spring Branch with their two spoiled Dachshund’s.

His first time attending the Pride Festival was back in 2006. Monte was just visiting Houston from being on a temporary work assignment and volunteered with one of the vendors. He had been out to his family since 2001 and was blessed with having many supportive friends and allies. However, his experience at his first Pride Festival was touching. For the first time in his life he was able to see so many LGBT+ people from all walks of life. Closeted, out, coming out, transgender, he saw it all. It was like looking through the lens of a camera and seeing the true spirit of Pride. A Pride where everyone could be themselves, have a safe place to celebrate, express themselves and love one another without fear. Ever since that moment Monte knew that when he moved back home, he wanted to be a part of Pride Houston and continue giving that opportunity for all to experience. Over eight years later he is still fulfilling that passion.
