“My first time attending the Pride Festival was back in 2006. I was just visiting Houston from being on a temporary work assignment and I volunteered with one of the vendors. I had been out to my family since 2001 and was blessed with having many supportive friends and allies in my life. However, my experience at my first Pride Festival was touching. For the first time in my life I was able to see so many LGBT+ people from all walks of life. Closeted, out, coming out, transgender, I saw it all. It was like looking through the lens of a camera and seeing the true spirit of Pride. A Pride where everyone could be themselves, have a safe place to celebrate, express themselves and love one another without fear. Ever since that moment I knew that when I moved back home, I wanted to be a part of Pride Houston and continue giving that opportunity for all to experience. Eight years later I am fulfilling that passion.”
