Augie Cahee is a Louisiana native, but has called Houston home for almost 30 years, where she has spent more than 25 of those years working in, for, and with the LGBTQ community.
Augie has volunteered with PRIDE Houston, GLBT Political Caucus, Mayor Anise Parker’s campaign, Human Rights Campaign, Houston A.R.C.H. Society, spoken at the H.E.R.O hearings on behalf of LGBTQ youth, National Gay & Lesbian Task Force, United for Marriage, Gay Day of Service, organized last year’s marriage equality march on Valentine’s Day and Campus PRIDE, Mayor’s LGBTQ Advisory Board, and many other organizations with a mission for empowering the LGBTQ Community. In 2010, Augie co-founded the nation’s first and only LGBTQ collegiate and profressional Greek Order, Epsilon Xi Gamma, Inc., an organization for collegiate, military, and professional lesbian women and allies.
Augie’s main passion is empowering and educating LGBTQ youth and sat on the board of Directors for First Kids and GLSEN for more than 6 years, before recognizing a gap for homeless and incarcerated youth, which then prompted Gamma to create “L.Y.F.E.” LGBTQ Youth Finding Excellence a Mentoring, Advocacy, and Scholarship program. For the last decade, through Gamma’s mission Augie has made it her mission to stay engaged in the LGBTQ community.
