Houston Remembers Orlando

This year, the Houston LGBT Pride Celebration® is a little more special for all of us. It’s a reminder of how far we have come, and of how far we have left to go. This year we remember the names of 49 Beautiful Souls taken from us far too soon.

Pride Houston - Houston LGBT Pride Celebration®Their names will be written on a 30′ x 20′ Rainbow Flag– and this flag will be marching at the beginning of the parade. All will see and remember their names, faces and stories.

Imran Yousuf, veteran and Pulse Nightclub Bouncer, will be our Honorary Grand Marshal.

A Sign of Support

Find this flag at the Houston Pride Festival®. Sign your name as a show of solidarity, a sign of strength, hope and love to those affected by the tragedy.

The flag will be delivered to the Orlando Pride Parade. It will signify that the Houston LGBT Community and our Allies stand together, and stand strong. We stand against hate and stand for love. We stand with Orlando. #WeAreOrlando

Honorary Grand Marshall: Imran Yousuf

Imran is a veteran and a bouncer at Pulse Nightclub. Through his actions on that fateful night, dozens of lives were saved. We are honored to welcome him at the Houston LGBT Pride Celebration®. Guests have a chance to meet Yousuf on Saturday at 1:30PM. He will be on the Barefoot Wine® Stage in front of City Hall.

Our Light Will Shine in Our Darkest Hour

Pride Houston will provide 1000 #GlowSticks to attendees near the Bud Light® Stage at Smith and McKinney. Guests are also encouraged to bring their own (#glowsticks, flashlights, etc). We will shine our lights in remembrance. We shine our lights in joy. We shine our light because evil will never win.

Our light will shine not just in remembrance of the lives lost in Orlando, but also to remind the world that our light will shine brightly no matter what challenges we face. For we have hope, and as Harvey Milk stated, “Hope will never be silent!
